About Dr. King
Ian T King was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1951. After serving in the Royal Navy for 5 years as a hydrographic surveyor, King attended the University of Hull where he earned a BA degree with Honours in Politics in 1980. He went on to earn a PhD in political science from the University of Minnesota in 1984.
In 1985, the-now Dr. Ian King came to Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas as an Assistant Professor in what would come to be known as the Politics and International Relations department. King taught mostly in the area of international relations and comparative politics, focusing on East Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. But he also taught courses on politics and imaginative literature, political philosophy, and "complex adaptive systems."
Dr. King retired in 2011 after 26 years at Hendrix, but not before being installed as the Harold and Lucy Cable Distinguished Professor of Politics and International Relations in 2008. Since his retirement from teaching, he has taken up fiction writing. He earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the Queens University of Charlotte, NC, in 2016. His first two novels, The Last Eucharist and Leaves in the Wind, were published in 2014; his latest novel, Siren Song, in 2017.
